The Zuish Language is the ancient language of the Zu Folk. It features an alphabet, numerals, and symbols used to solve many puzzles in FEZ.

Zu Alphabet[]

The Zu Alphabet is what modern Zu Folk use for communication and literature (excluding the villagers in Villageville). Use of this language can be found on paper, the walls, or on Hieroglyph Pillars, which denote 2 messages (1 per 2 sides). To read the alphabet, one must rotate the entire message 90° counter-clockwise (including the letters), and decipher the letters.

This language uses simple letter substitution from the English Alphabet. The key to deciphering this alphabet can be found in the Hieroglyph Room. Within this room, there is a Hieroglyph Pillar accompanied by a fox jumping over a dog. Using this context, the player can determine that the pillar reads on a pillar which says "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", a sentence notable for using every letter of the English Alphabet at least once. This in turn can be used to decipher the Zu Alphabet.

Tetromino Symbols[]

"Tetris" symbols and how to read them

The Tetromino symbols are based on movement inputs the player makes in-game. They can be first translated using the Tetromino Translator and are used to execute Tetromino codes on their respective pillars, doors, or other places featuring a code, be it hidden or fragmented. Knowledge of this code is highly useful when locating Anti-Cubes.

Trivia[]

  • The FEZ and the D'ni Numeral Systems are built very similarly, and it's possible that the system in FEZ is inspired by the one in MYST.
    • This can be futher implied by the D'ni number 6 hidden in the frequency of the soundtrack "Forgotten".
  • The Tetromino Symbols are a reminiscent of the clasic game "Tetris".
