Zu Sprite
The Zu are an ancient race of people. They appear in Zu City and speak an ancient language. From images placed around the game, they appear to be related to the inhabitants of Villageville, who likely shunned the third dimension after the abandonment of the Old Zu City.
The Cube Doors in the Memory Core lead to different stages of development of the Zu civilization. The Wall Village likely depicts the prehistoric versions of Zu, before achieving the ability to see the third dimension. At that point in time, their heads were more elongated, and had only one eye. It is speculated that the reason why the architecture in the Wall Village appears flat from the side is because the Zu Folk merely did not know of those directions. It would also explain why Gomez cannot rotate the screen from inside the buildings.

After having been enlightened to the third dimension by the Visitors, they left the settlement and their development was symbolized by them receiving a second eye. At some point, they built the first Zu City, which was mysteriously abandoned along with the Star Gate they constructed there. The Star Gate was destroyed at some unknown point after being created.
The New Zu City is seemingly identical to that of the abandoned one, although it's Star Gate is functional, and there is some construction being done. The population of the New Zu City is very large, and some of the villagers can be seen wearing Fezzes.
